Question: I have a cousin with a 5 month old with what is likely a milk allergy.  She has already been changed to soy-based milk, neocate, and nutramagen; all with modest improvement.  The baby still eats minimally, has watery black stools almost devoid of anything solid, and chronically congested.

Are there more options left in the diagnostic/treatment algorithm?

Should I try to find her a specialist in the San Antonio area to undergo further testing or a trial of different formula I don't know about?

If so can you recommend an allergist/immunologist that can facilitate more work-up?

Thanks for your time,
Michael

Answer: Dr. Reyes,

This is a complex case that should be evaluated by  one with significant experience in this area. Dr. William T. Kniker was involved in some original research in this area in the 1960s. He continues to practice in San Antonio. The office telephone number of Dr. Kniker is 210 616 0882.
